This carrier is excellent! I highly recommend for anyone traveling with a small dog. First, the dimensions of this bag are not correct on the Amazon site, they are: 18" D x 11" W x 10.5" H, Weight: 3.09 - this is from the Sherpa's Pet Trading Company ([...]).
I used this bag to pick up my 9 week old Shih Tzu. He was 3.5 pounds at the time and fit very easily in the carrier. I was able to fit him, a blanket, two toys and he still had plenty of room to move around.
I flew on two Delta airplanes and the carrier fit easily under the compartment in front of me, however it did stick out a little. It is a little long, but still complies with Delta regulations. Sherpa makes a "Delta approved" pet carrier, this Legacy Pattern bag is the exact same size as the Delta Approved bag - I even called the Sherpa Pet Company to confirm. The bag is not too wide, so you can place your feet on either side of the carrier.
I called Delta a few times to get the dimensions allowed for a soft kennel, carry-on bag. It took a few people to get a consistent answer. The size of the soft kennel for carry-on changes with the airplane you are on, so be sure to call to make sure the carrier is appropriate.
The bag is nicely ventilated and you have the option to cover up the sides of the carrier with the flaps. This feature is really nice to keep from over stimulating your puppy while moving around the airport. The flaps are easy to use, so when on the flight, they can be up for more air circulation. Other bags I have looked at do not seem to have a good amount of air ventilation.
The bag is extremely cute, I have received many compliments on it. Most people had no idea I was carrying a puppy. Also, there are two really nice compartments on the bag - one ideal for papers and the other for small things you may need on the plane.
As for the strength of bag, I cannot comment too much on that. My puppy slept almost the entire trip (7 hour total travel time), so he never tried to claw or bite at the mesh paneling. The bag weighed more than my puppy, but was comfortable to carry using the shoulder strap.
I highly recommend this bag if you are looking for a nice quality, doesn't scream "I have a pet" bag to use for airplane travel.

I am so thrilled, happy, amazed and just over joyed with this carrier! I feel the excitment as if I just bought a LV bag. It totally fits under the airline seat! And it has a smoosh ability but my cat is 12 pounds and was still very comfortable with his blanket and toys! Let me tell you all!! I got to the airport at 6:55am on Jan 3 only to find out my plane was cancelled! I had to take a 2pm plane which didn't leave until 2:30pm. I arrived finally in NY at 4:30, but my lugaguage was a hour and a half late! I didn't get home until 8pm! During the whole even my cat pepper spent his day in his carrier!!! And was totally fine. It was comfortable for him! He slept and stood up and turned around all in this one carrier! He was not smooshed at all. When he finally got out his carrier? You'd think he would run but he did not. Once out, he ate and crawled in it again! I had to dump him so he could stretch his legs. This carrier is also extremely great for being rough! I was rushing and moving around, so many people were bumping, I was dragging 50lb bag!! He had an adventure, including the carrier being turned over LOL!! However the bag never dented, ripped, or anything! Totally durable! Oh and the style? Gorgeous! And great for my male cat(as well as a female cat) I got so many compliments on my carrier. I felt as if it was my stylish purse. People didn't even know there was a cat inside at first! If your looking for a stylish, able to take a beating ( but keeps cat safe), fits under the airplane seat perfectly, then this is your bag! Worth every penny I paid!!!Definately a must have for animals :)

Great carrier for first-time traveler

| I purchased this carrier for my cat for her first ever plane ride. I fit under the seat just fine, due to one end's flexibility/smoosh-ability. The roll-up panels allowed for ventilation when we were sitting on the tarmac. I rolled the sides down when we landed in Fairbanks, AK and the back doors were opened - BRRR! The carrier is cute and so well constructed, even an irate Siamese couldn't get out. The pockets were handy for her certificate of health and some treats for the flight which, due to Alaska weather, took eight hours instead of two. But it was a comfortable and well contained ride for my cat. I would recommend this carrier for small dogs as well, as it was plenty roomy for my tubby kitty. |

| This bag worked for my cat and me. I was worried about him clawing his way out, as I had read in some other reviews that this could be a problem. However, my cat cowered the entire 15 hour trip, so it was not an issue for me. We will see what happens when I have to transport my feisty kitty in two months (I will review again at that point). I fed my cat in the carrier for a week before our departure (and would have done so for longer if I could have) so he was less skeptical of it when the big day came. The bag is a little challenging to fit under the seat, but by compressing the leading strut while pushing the bag under the seat I was able to make it fit. I flew on Alaska and they were fine with the size since it is a soft carrier. I like that the windows have covers as I think the privacy was calming for my cat. The fact that the carrier looks like any other duffel bag is a plus, too, as it allowed me not to feel like a traveling circus. It also meant that I could sneak my cat into the passenger cabin on the bus in Mexico which led to a better travel experience for both of us. I also found the bag comfortable to carry. |

| This bag was great for airplane travel! It fit perfectly under the seat in front of me with a tiny bit of room to spare. I was concerned it was going to be a little too tall but it was perfect! The dog was very comfortable and loved looking out the sides while we were in the airport. It was nice to be able to put the sides down when were on the plane so he knew it was time to go to sleep. It is even stylish! most people didn't even realize I had a dog with me! All in all this was a great purchase! I would recommend this bag to anyone looking to travel with their pet! |
